Mary Mangan was from Carrowskeheen, Addergoole, County Mayo and boarded RMS Titanic at Queenstown on 11 April 1912 as a Third Class passenger, travelling to America.
Mary was one of fourteen passengers from the Addergoole area who travelled aboard Titanic and have since become known as the Addergoole Fourteen. Tragically, only three of the group survived the sinking.
Born in Addergoole, County Mayo, Mary boarded Titanic at Queenstown on 11 April 1912, travelling to Chicago as part of a group now known as the Addergoole Fourteen. Tragically, only three of the fourteen survived the sinking.
Mary’s body was recovered by the Mackay-Bennett and buried at sea on 22 April 1912. Among her personal possessions recovered was a pocket watch, engraved with her name and later returned to her family.
Still showing signs of its immersion in the North Atlantic, the watch offers a poignant and personal connection to Mary’s story and the hopes, journeys and shared tragedy of the Addergoole Fourteen.
