NOTES

Doric, like all White Star liners built at this time was a gracefully looking vessel, with four masts, square rigged on three, providing her with effective sail power in case of engine breakdown. Along with her sister Ionic (Yard No. 152), the two vessels were chartered on completion to the New Zealand Shipping Company. Doric departed on her maiden voyage on 26 July 1883. The voyage from London to Wellington in New Zealand via the Cape and the return voyage in November was the fastest round-the-world trip to date.
