The Duchess of Cornwall Visits Titanic Belfast Ahead Of 10th Birthday

Titanic Belfast’s 10th birthday celebrations started today (Wednesday) with a visit from The Duchess of Cornwall.

Her Royal Highness enjoyed a tour of the iconic building and found out more about the city’s rich maritime history in the Titanic Experience viewing The Launch gallery with views of the original Slipway where RMS Titanic first entered the water, followed by a walkthrough of the Fit Out gallery to learn about life on board with recreations of the first, second and third class cabins.

The Duchess also met with some of the team members who shared their experiences and memories of working in Titanic Belfast over the last ten years as well as representatives from stakeholder organisations including Harcourt Developments, Belfast City Council, Tourism NI, Belfast Harbour, Titanic Quarter Ltd and Maritime Belfast Trust.

Titanic Belfast first opened its doors on 31st March 2012 and was later officially opened on 27th June 2012 by Her Majesty The Queen.

Judith Owens MBE, Chief Executive of Titanic Belfast said: “It was an honour to welcome the Duchess of Cornwall to Titanic Belfast as part of our 10th birthday celebrations. Over the last decade, this iconic building has played a key role in attracting more than six million visitors from over 145 different countries to Northern Ireland, so it was fantastic to tell her about the fascinating history and give her a tour of the experience.

“Some of our employees, myself included, have been working at Titanic Belfast since it opened on 31st March 2012 and we enjoyed sharing our own standout memories from the last decade before Her Royal Highness cut a celebratory cake to mark this milestone birthday.”

The 10th birthday celebrations will continue throughout March and April with a host of activity planned including the Titanic Belfast Birthday Bash from Thursday 31st March – Sunday 3rd April with hot air balloon and kite show displays, live music, face painting and a candlelight display on Titanic Slipways; a series of Titanic Talks covering a variety of topics from the architectural design of Titanic Belfast’s spectacular building to the real-life stories of Titanic descendants and a free photography exhibition, The People Who Built Titanic Belfast
